YouTube adds 3,000 titles to their movie service

(Los Angeles Times) YouTube is stepping up in the movie category by adding 3,000 new titles to bring in a bigger audience.
The video streaming service is most notably known for its user-generated content and that is where most of the views come from. It’s a place where a person can come to search for a video on just about anything, but the company isn’t satisfied with that.

Sixteen months after unveiling their new movie service, YouTube has taken the next step to try and compete with giants like Netflix and iTunes. According to MSNBC, YouTube has added another 3,000 titles to its movie streaming service and they have captured some big names.
Movies like Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, The King’s Speech and The Social Network are the big titles expected to draw in new viewers.
As The Hollywood Reporter says, YouTube offers rentals of 24 hours for $2.99 and $3.99 for new releases. They are slacking when it comes to movie count, as services like Netflix have upwards of 20,000 titles. Where they aim to beat the competition is in the new releases because new movies are rarely available on Netflix.
Videos and DVDs are soon on their way out and YouTube is ready to step in as a leading contender, but they have a long way to go. Salar Kamangar, head of YouTube, said in a press conference that 2 billion videos are watched per day, but users only spend up to 15 minutes on the site per day.
